We built our own platform because nothing on the market understood how a martial arts gym actually works. Here's what it does — from skill tracking and XP rewards to open mat challenges and mobile dashboards.
How We Use Tech to Make Your Training Better
I want to talk about something that's not techniques or competitions for once — our platform. That thing you log into, the system that tracks your check-ins, the skill track some of you have been working through. It exists for one reason: to make your training more effective.
We keep building on it, so if you haven't poked around in a while, there's a lot of new stuff worth knowing about.
Why we built our own system
We looked at what was available — generic gym management software designed for yoga studios and CrossFit boxes. None of it understood how a martial arts gym actually works. None of it could handle a 13-week rotating curriculum, track prerequisites between techniques, or show you where you are in your development.
So we built something that does. It's not perfect and it's always evolving, but every feature exists because we needed it for how we train at The Garden.
Check-in and skill logging
Every time you tap in at the kiosk, your training history builds. Streaks, consistency trends, discipline breakdowns — you can see exactly how often you're training and where you're putting your time.
Here's what's new: after you check in, you'll see a prompt asking what skills you worked on that day. Takes about ten seconds. Over time, this builds a picture of what you're actually practicing — not just that you showed up, but what you drilled. When you look at your skill track later, those logged sessions connect to the techniques and show your real progress.
The skill track and class planning
Every technique in our Gi, No-Gi, and Muay Thai curriculum is mapped out — what week it shows up, what you need to know first, how it connects to everything else. Instead of wondering "what should I work on next?" you can see it laid out.
On the instructor side, we use the same curriculum data to build class plans. When I'm prepping for Tuesday's No-Gi class, I can pull techniques from the skill track, attach notes and drill sequences, and have the whole plan ready before I walk onto the mat. It means your classes are structured around the same progression system you see in your dashboard.
RSVP and calendar sync
I know some of you were skeptical about RSVP. But knowing who's coming to class helps me plan. If Tuesday No-Gi has 25 people signed up and Thursday has 10, I can adjust instruction accordingly. It's not about restricting access — it's about giving you better coaching.
When you confirm your spot, you can now download it straight to your phone's calendar. One tap and the class shows up in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook — whatever you use. No more forgetting which days you signed up for.
Video library
Missed a detail during drilling? It's there. Want to preview next week's curriculum? All linked to the skill track so you can study what's relevant right now.
The Courtyard and challenges
The Courtyard is our community feed. Post a training highlight, celebrate a promotion, share competition results. It's built for people who actually train together, not random strangers on the internet.
We added a challenge system for open mat Saturdays. You can call out a training partner through the Courtyard — pick your format (one eight-minute round or three five-minute rounds) and put it out there. Your partner accepts, it shows up in the feed, and everyone can see who's throwing down this weekend. It's brought a lot of energy to our Saturday sessions.
Rewards and XP
Everything you do earns XP — checking in, logging skills, posting in the Courtyard, completing challenges. Hit certain milestones and you unlock achievements. Train five days in a week, complete a challenge, post your first competition result — each one gets recognized.
There are reward tiers too. As your XP builds, you move through levels and unlock actual rewards. It's not about making training into a video game. It's about recognizing consistency. The people who show up every week deserve to see that reflected somewhere.
Belt progression
Your belt history, promotions, and stripe progress are all tracked in your dashboard. You can also submit a belt promotion request directly through the platform — report your current rank and what you're requesting. Your coaches review it and the whole history stays in your profile.
Your practitioner profile shows your belt timeline, competition record, training stats, and gym affiliation. You can add social links and customize how you show up to the community.
Your dashboard on your phone
If you've been using the platform on your phone, you've probably noticed it feels more like an app now. There's a bottom navigation bar — Home, Skills, Schedule, Courtyard, Profile — so you can get around with your thumb instead of hunting through a hamburger menu. Your check-in, RSVP, and skill logging are all designed for one-handed use between rounds.
Upload a profile photo and you'll get a crop tool so you can frame your picture properly instead of hoping the auto-crop gets it right.
Space rental and events
We run seminars, workshops, and guest instructor sessions through the platform. You can register, pay, and get confirmation — all in one flow. For paid events, the checkout is handled through Stripe so it's clean and secure.
We also opened up the gym for space rental. Need the space for a private session, a video shoot, or an event? You can check availability by date, pick your time slot, and book it online. No back-and-forth texts needed.
Try the stuff you haven't tried yet
If you've been ignoring the skill track, spend five minutes with it. Find where you are in the curriculum. It'll change how you think about your development.
If you haven't challenged anyone on the Courtyard, pick a training partner and throw down this Saturday. It takes thirty seconds to set up.
If you've been skipping the RSVP, try it for a week. Add the class to your calendar so it's locked in. It's faster than you think, and it helps your coaches plan better classes.
Check your XP and achievements. You might be closer to the next reward tier than you realize.
Every feature exists because a member asked for it or a problem needed solving. The more you use it, the better it gets — for you and for everyone training here.
See you on the mat.
