Every Major Jiu-Jitsu Competition in 2026: The Complete Guide for Philly Grapplers
Whether you've been competing for years or you're thinking about entering your first tournament, 2026 is packed with opportunities. We put together this guide so our members — and anyone training in the Philadelphia area — can plan their competition year, pick the right events, and show up prepared.
This covers everything from the biggest stages in the world to the local BJJ tournaments you can drive to on a Saturday morning.
IBJJF Grand Slam: The Biggest Stages in the Sport
The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) runs the four most prestigious Gi tournaments in the world. Together they form the Grand Slam — and completing all four in one year is one of the highest achievements in competitive jiu-jitsu.
Pan Championship — March 24–29, Kissimmee, FL
The IBJJF Pans kick off the Grand Slam season at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida. This is the largest IBJJF tournament by number of competitors and a realistic goal for dedicated hobbyists and competitors alike.
- Dates: March 24–29, 2026
- Location: Silver Spurs Arena, Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, FL
- Registration: ibjjf.com — final deadline March 15
- Spectators: Free admission
If you're a blue belt or above and want to test yourself against a deep bracket, Pans is the one.
Brazilian Nationals (Campeonato Brasileiro) — April, Barueri, SP, Brazil
The second leg of the Grand Slam takes place in Brazil. It's a pilgrimage for serious competitors — the brackets are stacked with local Brazilian talent and international travelers.
- Dates: April 2026 (exact dates TBA)
- Location: Ginásio Poliesportivo José Corrêa, Barueri, São Paulo, Brazil
- Registration: ibjjf.com
- Affiliation deadline: April 2, 2026
World Championship (Mundials) — May/June, TBA
The Mundials is the Super Bowl of jiu-jitsu. If you're competing at black belt, this is where legends are made. Even at lower belts, saying "I competed at Worlds" carries weight.
- Dates: TBA (historically late May or early June)
- Location: TBA (traditionally Southern California — Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach or Anaheim Convention Center)
- Registration: Check ibjjf.com/events/calendar for updates
Master Worlds — September 3–5, Las Vegas, NV
If you're 30 or older, this one's for you. Master Worlds draws a massive international field of age-group competitors and runs alongside Jiu-Jitsu CON — a full expo with seminars, vendors, and after-parties.
- Dates: September 3–5, 2026
- Location: Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV
- Registration: ibjjf.com
This is one of the most popular events for hobbyist competitors who want a world-class experience without having to fight 22-year-old killers.
IBJJF Opens: The Closest Major Tournament to Philly
New York Spring Open — April 11–12, Hempstead, NY
This is the closest IBJJF Open to Philadelphia — about a two-hour drive to Hofstra University on Long Island. It offers both Gi and No-Gi divisions and is a great stepping stone before the bigger IBJJF events.
- Dates: April 11–12, 2026 (Kids on April 12)

ADCC: The No-Gi Superbowl Goes to Poland
The Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Championship is the most prestigious No-Gi submission grappling event on the planet. In 2026, it's heading to Europe for the first time in over a decade.
ADCC World Championship — September 12–13, Kraków, Poland

How The Garden MMA Prepares You to Compete
Knowing about jiu-jitsu tournaments is one thing. Showing up ready to win is another. Here's what we do at The Garden to make sure our competitors are prepared.
Competition classes. We run dedicated competition training sessions where the pace, intensity, and structure mirror what you'll face in a tournament. Timed rounds, IBJJF and submission-only rulesets, and match-specific strategy.
Open mats. Our weekend open mats are where you pressure-test everything. Roll with different body types, belt levels, and styles. This is where competition cardio gets built.
Coach corner support. When you compete, you don't go alone. Our coaches are in your corner — literally. They'll be mat-side giving you real-time strategy, calming your nerves between matches, and helping you game plan for your next opponent.
Weight management guidance. Cutting weight the wrong way ruins your performance. We help our members make smart decisions about which weight class to enter and how to get there without destroying themselves.
Mental preparation. First tournament jitters are real. We've been there. We talk our members through what to expect — from the waiting around to the adrenaline dump to the post-match comedown. Knowing what's coming makes all the difference.
Ready to Start Your Competition Journey?
You don't need to be a certain belt level or have a certain number of years training to compete. Some of our members entered their first tournament within months of starting. The key is having the right preparation and the right team behind you.
If you're training at The Garden and thinking about competing, talk to your coaches. We'll help you pick the right event, prepare a game plan, and make sure you're ready.
If you're not training with us yet but want a gym that takes competition seriously, come try a class. Your first one is on us.
See you on the mat — and on the podium.
